Background John Allen was was
buried at Brixworth on 14 January 1811. Text This is the last will and
Testament of me John Allen of Brixworth in the County of Northampton Yeoman
in Manner and form following (that is to say) First I give devise and bequeath
All and every my Messuages Cottages Closes Meadows
Lands Tenements Hereditaments and real Estate whatsoever And also all my
Goods Chattels Monies Effect and Personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever and of every Nature Sort or Kind so ever unto
my Son in Law Thomas Howcutt To Hold the same unto and to the Use of my said
Son in Law Thomas Howcutt and of his Heirs Executors Administrators and
Assigns for ever Subject nevertheless and charged and chargeable and I do
hereby charge and subject all my said real and Personal Estates to and with
the Payment of the Sum of ten Pounds a year to my now Wife Sarah Allen for
and during the Term of her natural Life by four equal Quarterly Payments at
or upon the four several and respective Days or times in the Year hereinafter
mentioned (that is to say) the twenty fifth Day of March the twenty fourth
Day of June the twenty ninth Day of September and the twenty first Day of
December in every year The first Payment thereof to begin and be made at or
upon such of the said Days or times as shall first and next happen after my
Decease and so to continue Due and Payable and be paid Quarterly in equal
Portions for and during the natural Life of my said Wife And I do hereby give
and grant to my said Wife the same Powers Authorities and Remedies for
Recovery of the said Annuity and all Arrears thereof as is by Law given to
Landlords for Recovery of Arrears of Rent And I do hereby direct subject and
make chargeable all my said real and Personal Estates by me given to my said
Son in Law Thomas Howcutt as aforesaid to and with the Payment of the several
Legacies or sums of Money to the following and respective Persons and in
Manner hereinafter mentioned (that is to say) To my Brother Robert Allen the Sum
of Five Pounds To my Nephew Thomas Allen Son of
my Brother Thomas Allen Deceased the Sum of five Pounds To my Nieces Mary Allen Elizabeth
Allen and Ann Allen Sisters of my said Nephew Thomas Allen the Sum of five
Pounds a piece To Joseph Howcutt Brother of the
said Thomas Howcutt the Sum of one Hundred Pounds and to George Howcutt another
Brother of the said Thomas Howcutt the Sum of twenty Pounds To my Brother William Allen the
sum of One Guinea and to my Nephew William Allen Son of my said Brother William
Allen the like sum of one Guinea. All which said several Legacies I
do hereby Will and Direct shall be paid to the said several Legatees within
twelve Calendar Months next after my Decease. And I do hereby nominate
constitute and Appoint my said Son in Law Thomas Howcutt sole Executor of
this my last Will and Testament And Lastly I do hereby revoke
disannul and make void all former and other Will and Wills by me at any time
or times heretofor made and do Declare and Publish
this and this alone to be and contain my true and only last Will and
Testament In Witness whereof I the said John
Allen the Testator have to this my last Will and Testament set my Hand and
Seal the twelfth Day of October in the Year of our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and five. Signed Sealed Published and
Declared by the above named John Allen as and for his last Will and Testament
in the Presence of Us who have hereunto at his Request in his Presence and in

Thomas Howcutt the sole Executor named in the within written will was then
sworn well and faithfully to perform the same and that the Goods Chattels and
Credits do not amount in Value to the Sum of Four hundred and fifty Pounds
