Bablake
School and Bonds Hospital, Coventry |
Bond's Hospital was established as
almshouses in 1507. They were apparently added on
to a school that already existed at Bablake. The
buildings are arranged round a courtyard on the north side of Hill Street.
William Howcott, a whittawer, was recorded as a
Bond's Hospital feofee in 1609. The William Howcott
who served as a Bablake School feofee
in 1610-11 was probably the same person. In a later generation, the register
of St Michael's church records the burial on 22 July 1680 of William Howcot from Bablake hospital. |
