Old Lodge, Old,
Northamptonshire
|
The 1851 census of Brixworth
confirms that Elizabeth Howcutt (1780-1853), a “pauper late carrier”, had
been born at “Old (Lodge)”. This building was a farmhouse in the countryside
north of the village called Old and some five miles north east of Brixworth. Elizabeth was the oldest child of
James Martin and Mary Chapman, who had married at Brixworth in 1779. The
family remained in the parish of Old until around 1789 when they moved to
Brixworth. By 1800 both of Elizabeth’s parents had died and it was in that year
that she married Thomas Howcutt (1776-1844). Thomas and Elizabeth had eleven
children and were grandparents of Mark
Michael Howcutt. Old Lodge is a Grade II Listed
Building and was probably built in the late 17th century. A
description of the property and location map can be found on its page on the Historic
England site. |
