Will of Robert Holcott of Stoughton, 1658

In the name of God Everlasting I Robert Holcott of Stolten in the County of Leicester gentl. being weake in body but of perfect memory doe in the yeare of our Lord Christ according to the Accompt used in England one thousand six hundred fiftie and five ordeyne and constitute this my last will and testament in this forme following:

 

Inprimis I comend my Soule into the hands of my maker by the mediacon on my mercifull Redeemer Jesus Christ As also I comitt my body to the earth from whence it came to be decently buried in the Chaple of Stolten aforesaid at the discrecon of my Executrix hoping for a joyfull resurrecton at the last daie by the meritts of my blessed Saviour Jesus Christ and by noe other meanes.

 

Also I dispose of my temporall estate as followeth,

 

First I give and bequeath unto my Eldest sonne Robert Holcutt those sheepe which I possessed him of in my liefe tyme together with the revercon of that close wherein they pasture called by ye name of Akersledclose lyeing in the parish of Stolton aforesaid with all the appurtennces thereunto belonging he paying the rents of the said close and all other taxes and charges.

 

Item I give the said Robert Twenty shillings.

 

Item I give to the said Robert my Trunke and all my bookes.

 

Next I give and bequeath to my Eldest daughter Mary Holcutt the some of Twenty shillings, as also two Bonds which I have made over unto her by letter of Atturney irrevocable.

 

Item I give and bequeath unto my sonne William Holcutt my two Steers also I give unto him twenty shillings, also I give and bequeath unto him two bonds which I have made over unto himby a lre. of atturney irrevocable.

 

Item I give and bequeath unto my mother Mrs Katherine Meeke twenty shillings.

 

Item I give to be distributed amongst the poore of Stolton six shillings.

 

Item to evry one of my other children vizt. Elizabeth Jane Charles Henry I give twenty shillings a peece and leave them and the rest of my estate my debts and funerall expenses being paid to the care and dispose of my loveing wiefe hopeing that she will prove a kinde mother to them and they dutifull and obedient children to her, which wiefe in regard of my love to her & confidence and trust I repose in her I constitute and appoint sole executrix of this my last will and testament desiring God to direct her in whatever may conduce to the good of her and her children, unto which my last will and testament, I sett to my hand and seale this fourth day of January one thousand six hundred fiftie five.

This will was proved at London the six and twentieth day of February One thousand six hundred fiftie Eight English stile, before the Judges for probate of wills & granting adminions. etc. by the Oath of Jane the relict and sole Executrix etc. To whome was Comitted adminacon. etc. shee first sworne truly to adminster etc.
